Sheryl Bridgewater sings
Sheryl Bridgewater is a multi-talented vocalist.  She is renowned for her excellence in jazz, blues, R & B and gospel.  Audiences are captivated by her charm, enthusiasm, creative improvisation and sensitive interpretation of the intricate jazz, blues and gospel styles.  She has performed in clubs, live shows, hotel events, and weddings in the Caribbean, New York and many cities in Japan including Tokyo, Yokohama, Shizuoka, Niigata, Sapporo, Osaka, Hiroshima and Fukuoka.

Her greatest vocal asset is her radiant mezzo-soprano voice with lush jazz overtones and contemporary improvisation, which makes for singing that is innately passionate.  She has developed a larger-than-life theatrical personality, which enthralls audiences and contributes to the excitement in her shows.  Her interests are rooted in jazz, blues and gospel, but often R & B, Latin, Pop and Broadway are also included with equal creativity in her shows. Other artistic accomplishments include appearances in movies as a jazz dancer in the Japanese movie, “Bad History”, and a variety of extra parts in other movies. She has played a major role in two children’s musical productions sponsored by the company, World Family and toured for two years throughout Japan.

Sheryl’s artistic career dates back to the late 1970’s when she launched her career with the following groups as a keyboardist:  The Stylistics, The Cleftones, Drifter, Shirelles and the Crystals.  In Europe and the Caribbean, she has performed in London, Amsterdam, Frankfort, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Liverpool, Manchester and other cities.  She has appeared in numerous shows throughout Japan.

After graduating from the Conservatory of Music at Lawrence University where she received her degree in music, she studied with the late jazz pianist Mary Lou William, Jaki Byard, Norman Simmons, Richard Abrams, the late prominent New York vocal coach Marty Lang, opera vocal coach, Dr. Minoru Yamada and the renowned funky pop vocalist and vocal coach, Maxayn Lewis.
